I’m about 5"2 and kind of skinny. Next year will be my very first year playing Volleyball on a team.
It depends on your team and age and etc. but I would say a back row player like a DS or a libero. Also, it depends on your skill. There’s a short girl on my team who’s a great hitter and setter so she plays front row and back row.
Good Luck ☺.
What is the most common volleyball position for someone small and short?

libero or ds( defensive specialist). You would only play back row and you would pass!

If you are athletic and quick then the libero is a good idea. But if you’re not then I would recommend training as a serving specialist. Just focus on perfecting 2 or 3 serves that you can use at anytime to put your opponents in trouble. Your coach will love you for it and you will be a great asset to the team.

I would say a Libero or a setter and don’t have to play the front row. I am personally short and made a great setter. A libero is a great option too it all depends what you enjoy and are good at but those are definitely your best 2 choices
Good Luck!

DEFINITELY A BACKROW PLAYER!
Because your short, playing either a DS (defensive specialist) or a libero would be a smart choice. They both get to go backrow but are two different positions.
Libero is the one with the different colored jersey and will just go in without substitution.

If you are fast, you could be a libero. Also you could play as a setter, which demands you to be ready to block and hit, as well. I am 5”4 and I usually play as a setter (sometimes in men teams), libero and even outside hitter, too.
Any position you play, you have to practice a lot!

Usually a setter or libero. But I’m your height too and skinny and I’m an outside hitter. It really depends on how versatile you are in all the positions.
