Im trying out for the team and yes i am going to be a freshman. What should i expect to see from the tryouts, how should i get noticed? Any tips or experince with tryouts would be appreciated. I really want to at least make the freshman team, its 4 days or of tryouts and i want to show them what i got, most likely i will be in the back since i am 5’2" lol. I am such a fast learner when it comes to Volleyball, so do you think the coaches will notice that?
Hey Jess! I’m a frshman and I made my school’s jv team last week! its a lot of fun and I’m sure you’ll love it.
1.At tryouts come prepared! this one girl came to tryouts without a hair tie! I was like okayy so then she dug in my bag for one! coming prepared means having
a) a brightly colored shirt to get you noticed
b) spandex if you have them, soffe shorts will do for now
c) good broken in court shoes or running/tennins shoes (ascics, mizunos, or nike) just a good brand.
d) kneepads baby! some girls and make it through tryouts without them but for me thy are a must! even if they are 5 dollar ones from walmart getting good kneepads however are a VERY good investment.
e) physical!! you must have all your paperwork and stuff filled out. 4 girls came without physicals on file and they couldn’t try out.
Bring water and maybe and extra shirt if your tryouts are really long also have proper socks (ankle, crew or knee high)
2. Be LOUD! I don’t care if you look "stupid" saying MINE MINE MINE or I GOT IT! I GOT IT! be loud and encourage your team mates, this will get you good attention
introduce yourself to others and be talkative on the court this way you don’t look too much like a beginner
3. arrive early and leave late this means arriveing at least 15 minutes early to tryouts. and help put down the net and shag balls at the end. Help as much as you can and teach the seventh graders how to put up/take down the net
4. Be confident in your skills. Those other girls can be intimidating (I learned that today) Just show off what you can do best and leave alone what you can’t. don’t kiss up to anyones butt for that sake. just be yourself and give it all you got. hustle everywhere you go and drink plenty of water
5. As far as being a fast learner coaches love that and have a special eye for things like that. Since you are short make sure you have good on target sets and passes. But reach for the sky! some of the shortest people are the BEST jumpers! I’m 5’5 so not that tall but I try and I’m an outside hitter because of my jumps you’ll be great.
I need a list of Division 1 female Volleyball players that are going to be starting and having a major role on their team as a freshman this season.
I know Jane Croson and Summer Ross going to Hawaii and Washington. Who are some others?
Best list wins. Please give name, and small rationale for why they will be an impact player.
Thanks!
Some top freshmen who should help there teams a lot this year will be.
Khat Bell (Texas): She can play many different positions and has a good jump serve.
Liz McMahon (Illinois): She’s 6’6 and puts up a great block. She was on the USA Jr. National team.
Kellie McNeil (Minnesota): She is a really good setter, who has a good chance of starting. She is a really competitive player and will help her team out a lot!
Anna Dorn (Illinois): She will be the 2nd middle and is very athletic. She will be a redshirt freshman and was also on the Jr. National team a few years back.
Micha Hancock (Penn State): She is also a setter who has a good chance of starting this year. She has good hands.
- I know most of these players are from the Big Ten, but that is the conference I’m most familiar with volleyball- wise!
This is my 2nd question about this topic but I really want to do my best for my Volleyball tryouts in 2 wks. How do you impress your coach? I really want to make the team, and I know first impressions count!
There are a lot of ways, but it mostly comes down to selling yourself as a person and player. As a player, just play as well as you can. There’s not a lot you can do other than what you can do.
To show your character and coachability, always hustle everywhere. When you get feedback, nod, paraphrase or smile to show you understand, then say "thanks". Also ask lots of questions. Coaches will like this because it shows that you want to learn and appreciate their help. The other big thing is to have fun when you are playing. When your teammate gets a kill or a great dig, celebrate with them and be loud.
Hope this helps!
One of the most intense spots ive seen.

This is what happens when you combine Kung Fu, Soccer and Volleyball

Well, actually, 1 in a gym teacher and the other is a volleyball coach. I love to play volleyball and I decided to combine one of my favorite sports with my favorite hobby, which is writing stories.
An affair between the school’s volleyball coach and the gym teacher has been going on for a long time, but the gym teacher is married. The coach’s daughter plays for the Volleyball team. The daughter of the gym teacher and his/her wife plays for the school’s rival team. There is an epic volleyball game. The end.
Smith/Stoklos vs Kiraly/Steffes This is ugly!
